eRedbook shortlisted finalist for Public Sector Paperless Awards

eRedbook, the digital version of the paper red book given to all new parents to manage their child’s health between the age of 0 and 5, has been shortlisted as a finalist for this year’s Paperless awards: a unique event held to honour and encourage digital progress, recognise achievement and spread best practice in digital transformation within public sector organisations.

The award celebrates a project that has demonstrated outstanding progress towards becoming a paperless operation. This means that in addition to proving that Sitekit is well on its way to achieving what we set out to do, delivering value for money and a clear strategy for implementation – that the eRedbook has demonstrated sufficient innovation, imagination and ambition to be considered as a finalist. Paving the way for Paperless Child Records

The eRedbook project is driving standards for sharing information digitally through the health system, which is often closed and proprietary. This is holding back the prospect of a ‘paperless NHS at the point of care,’ one of the key objectives of NHS England’s digital strategy. NHS England, Sitekit and NHS Digital have worked closely together to standardise information flows for children and create technology that can be adopted universally by NHS Trusts, helping pave the way to a paperless NHS.

Initial testing in London has now proved a success with survey data so far demonstrating that parents and health professionals are extremely positive about the improved digital child health services. In 2018, further roll-out of eRedbook will take place in London and additional regions. NHS England has adopted the eRedbook as part of its paperless Empower the Person strategy, specifying that an electronic red book should be included in Child Health Information Services, which are currently out to tender across London region and Central Midlands. It is also in the process of encouraging the three other regions to follow this model in their own procurements for Child Health Information Services
