eRedbook announced at eHealth Symposium
Date: 18 May 2012
The first public announcement of the eRedbook, the UK’s first electronic Personal Child Health Record (ePCHR) was made at Sitekit’s eHealth Symposium on 18th May 2012.
The eRedbook gives people the tools to manage their child’s healthcare data, putting them in control of managing their health, which is an important aspect of the UK Department of Health’s Information Strategy.
Dr David Low, National Clinical Lead for Paediatrics and Child Health, Department of Health, Informatics Directorate, calls the eRedbook a ‘fundamental part of the shift from ‘clinician managed’ to ‘citizen managed’ data’, with many benefits over the paper-based version.
At the Symposium Andy Payne of Microsoft revealed that the eRedbook will be operating on the Microsoft HealthVault platform, which has been created to meet the Department of Health’s security and privacy requirements for the management of healthcare data.
When the eRedbook was demonstrated at the 2012 AGM of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, it was received with great interest. Clinicians were delighted to have the eRedbook available on both desktop computers and mobile devices, as it made the Redbook easier to access, and improved usability and security for parents and medical staff.
The first NHS trusts to offer the eRedbook will be NHS Moray, NHS South Warwickshire, NHS Rotherham Foundation Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals Foundation Trust.
Our project partners Maverick TV, producers of the hit show Embarrassing Bodies, will lead a UK-wide engagement programme during the pilot and release of the eRedbook, allowing parents throughout the UK to be kept in the loop with the eRedbook’s development.
